Our Volunteers

We recognise that empathy alone cannot always replace lived experience, which is why we value this deeply in both our staff and our volunteers.

Like our clients, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. They take on a wide range of roles - from supporting with social media and fundraising, to co-facilitating groups alongside other volunteers.

Our aftercare Lotus Blossom domestic abuse recovery groups are run by a dedicated team of Peer Support Mentors. To become a Lotus Blossom Peer Support Mentor, volunteers must live in East Sussex and first have attended our Recovery programme (one to one and group support) as a client. This ensures a lived-experience pathway into volunteering, with the right support in place.

"I think that what the volunteers do for people like myself is fantastic. I wish that one day I will be able to repay what you do and become a volunteer myself."

Volunteer stories

Here are what some of our volunteers have said about their experience:

I have been a sounding board, a facilitator, a boundary giver, a friend- all at the same time. At times it is tiring and frustrating and then at other times there is laughter and love.
